Women’s Day Celebrations

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025 CELEBRATIONS COMMEMORATED IN MAKUENI COUNTY-KENYA

Fadhili Trust in collaboration with UDO and the County Government of Makueni today marked International Women's Day on 8th March 2025 at Siembeni Market in Kibwezi West Sub-County. The function was graced by Her Excellency Lucy Mulili, Makueni County's Deputy Governor (DG).

The DG called for concerted efforts from the political class and the civil society groups to ensure gender equality and empowerment for women and girls in the country. She further said deliberate efforts must be made to ease women and girls’ access to education, employment, leadership and decision-making spaces. Additionally, she mentioned the different policies that the county had put in place to promote social equity and economic development including Gender, Children, Disability, Social Protection, Ultra Poor and Gender Based Violence Policies.

Fadhili Trust’s Programme Manager observed that this year’s theme for the celebrations aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that aims at eliminating discrimination, violence, and harmful practices against women and girls, while promoting their equal participation in all aspects of life. Fadhili Trust's gender champion, Mr. Benard Mutha was acknowledged by the Deputy Governor for promoting women inclusion in community forums, moreso during male engagement forums. Fadhili Trust's Gender Officer appreciated the contribution of women towards building a world where gender equality remains a fundamental value.

The County’s Women Representative called upon the media, elected and corporate leaders, civil society, youth and all other actors of influence to take action in their communities and invest in promoting women’s rights and gender equality.

Also present were different CSOs, Area Member of Parliament (MP), Members of County Assembly (MCA), County Solicitor and County Executive Committee Members from various County Departments who all acknowledged the significant role played by women in development.
